How to Keep Your New Year’s Resolution

Are you one of the millions of people who, on December 31st, resolved to get fit and lose weight in 2013?  Starting a workout regime is one of the most popular New Year’s resolutions and for those of you who did it, you’re probably in a bit of pain right this very minute.  Well, join the club because after my first pilates class of the year my legs feel like they were run over by Mack truck and I can barely stand up without wincing like an 80-year old grandma!

Whether you’re running, lifting weights at the gym, taking yoga, pilates, or simply walking, you need some help to get your weary body through these first few painful weeks and push the excess lactic acid buildup out of your muscles. Here’s my best remedy — a soothing Coconut Massage Balm that you can rub all over your body after every workout to help relax your muscles and reduce any soreness and stiffness.

Massage any and all sore parts of your body with this Balm before you go to bed and you’ll wake up feeling ready for your next workout.  This year there’s no breaking your New Year’s resolution!

Post-Workout Coconut Massage Balm

  • 1 big scoop of Coconut Oil (about 4 oz.)

  • 2 drops of Eucalyptus Oil

  • 2 drops of Lavender Oil

  • 1 drop of Rose Geranium Oil

Put the coconut oil in a glass bowl and place it in the microwave for about 10 seconds, just enough so that it softens up and is not clumpy.  Add the aromatherapy oils – you can adjust them to your liking.  You can use the oil in the liquid form, or wait until it hardens up again and use it like a balm (which is the way I prefer it) so that it melts into your skin.

The Benefits of Coconut Oil

The health benefits of coconut oil are huge, including; hair care, skin care, stress relief, maintaining cholesterol levels, weight loss, increased immunity, proper digestion and metabolism, relief from kidney problems, heart diseases, high blood pressure, diabetes, HIV and cancer, dental care, and bone strength. These benefits of coconut oil can be attributed to the presence of lauric acid, capric acid and caprylic acid, and its properties such as antimicrobial, antioxidant, antifungal, antibacterial, soothing, etc.
