There are many, many stories about where Margaritas originated from. Some say it came from a wealthy socialite in the 1940’s named Margarita Sames who was vacationing with friends at her Acapulco home and created the drink and it became wildly popular after that…others say it came from a woman named Majorie King who had an allergy to alcohol (poor woman) but could only drink tequila (that’s awesome) and concocted this delicious libation for herself out of necessity…no one can say for certain where exactly this favorite cocktail of so many comes from, but one thing every one can agree on is, a properly made margarita can turn around even the most stressful of days around!!
Over the years it’s been modified, skinny-fied, spiced and made into an easy-blending super sugary mix of something that has artificial lime flavor in it! (Don’t you dare buy that pre-mixed stuff… it’s riddled with sugar, tons of carbs and artificial flavors!) Go for the real stuff. LIMES!
I don’t claim that this recipe is of the “skinny bitch” variety but it sure is good! And your arms will get a little work out with all of the limes you’ll be squeezing… and you know how I love to multitask when I’m drinking! So give it a try!!
The Reinvention of the Margarita
1 Ounce Anejo Tequila or Blanco Tequila
1/2 Ounce Cointreau or Triple Sec
1/2 Ounce Fresh Lime Juice
1/4 Ounce Light Agave
Lime & Salt for Garnish
Fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Add the Tequila, Cointreau, Lime Juice and Agave Nectar and SHAKE! SHAKE! SHAKE!!! (Do a little booty shake while you’re at it!!)
Fine strain and pour into a chilled ice-filled double rocks glass!
If you like salt (watch out though, it’s a big dehydrator) before you pour, run the lime wedge around the glass and dip into some margarita salt!
**Health benefits of limes**
The health benefits of lime include weight loss, skin care, good digestion, relief from constipation, eye care, and treatment of scurvy… cause scurvy is so rampant, piles… I’m not even sure what that is, peptic ulcer, respiratory disorders, gout, gums, urinary disorders.
