Easy tips to get you off the Christmas high!

 

Coming down off of the Christmas high?

Christmas. Oh the joy. Family visiting from out of town staying in you home. The endless entertaining. Cooking. Cleaning. Wrapping gifts. The cleaning from the wrapping of the gifts. The noise from the toy.  The noise from family members overstaying their welcome. Your husband’s fabulous mood because of all of the above.  Oh yes.  Joy Joy Joy!

But alas…You’ve made it!!!  It’s ova! Call it a wrap!
Now lets talk about how to come down from all this endless happiness!

SKIP THE COOKIES, CAKES & FUDGE!

I’m sure you’ll have a ton of left over sweets, cakes, cookies and fudge, but while all of those guild ridden treats may taste amazing and the carbs in them boost those serotonin levels in your noggin… take a pass on them.  Better yet… THROW THEM OUT!  The holiday parties and goodie baskets are over and let’s get back on track!  Go for a high protein, low carbohydrate energy bar.  One of my faves is Pure Organic bars They’re awesome (yes, I said awesome) because they are gluten free (gluten can slow you down) they’re filled with all of the essential nutrients, protein and fiber and even better they’ve all got a bit of omega-3’s in them!   They come in 7 really delicious flavors (I’ve tried them all & it’s a tie between the chocolate brownie bar and the cherry cashew bar) and they really do take the place of that feeling of wanting that cookie or treat.  Satisfying. Good for you.

STRESSED OUT? LOW IMMUNE SYSTEM? FIGHT IT!

If you’re stressed out, your body will naturally have a lower immune system, and trust me… now is not the time to get sick.  The kids are home for the next two weeks.  Yes, I go for the occasional if not daily EmergenC during this time of year… but that’s not enough!  Things to remember… lower the blood pressure, keep the stress level to a minimum.  Foods to hit up.  Avocados. Plain, in a salad, or squeeze a lemon on it and eat it out of the shell… I don’t care.  Just eat some.  This is my absolute favorite recipe for guac, and I swear it’s going to be yours too.

Goooood Guacamole

  • 3-4 Haas avocados, slightly ripe and roughly diced.
  • ½ red onion, finely diced almost minced
  • 2 tablespoons of cilantro, rough chopped.
  • 1 tomato, diced juice and all.
  • 1 jalapeno pepper, remove the seeds and finely dice.
  • 1 clove of garlic, minced
  • 1-2 Limes, juiced
  • Salt and pepper
  • 1 teaspoon of white vinegar
  • A drizzle of olive oil
  • 2 or 3 tablespoons of your favorite salsa
Using a fork, combine all the ingredients in a bowl and try eating it with Romaine Lettuce leaves… it’ll take the place of chips and still give you that crunch you’re looking for!

Other great foods to eat to fight stress, bananas, swiss chard, yogurt & almonds.

Lastly, I know this one is going to sound crazy… but this one works on a few different levels.  HOT WATER. & LEMON JUICE   No, I’m not kidding.
So we all know the cleansing effects of lemon. It’s a natural antioxidant.  Plus it’s high in vitamin C (another immune fighter) combine that with hot water… (no sugar, no honey, no teas) just plain old hot water and it can help if you’ve got an upset stomach, aid in digestion, your throat hurts and really soothe you overall.
