BOTOX: Wrinkle miracle cure & underarm sweat-buster extraordinaire! Who knew?
Let’s be honest: When most women, including us, think of Botox , they usually think of their faces, not their underarms. Well ladies, we have news for you. Believe it or not, Botox can safely reduce underarm sweat for up to six months!
Considering the crazy heat waves this summer, we thought it apropos to show you how Botox can keep you sweat-free and bring lasting relief to the more than a million people who suffer from an embarrassing condition called “axillary hyperhidrosis,” excessive underarm sweat. People with this condition sweat up to 4x more than normal in order to maintain a normal body temperature, and they often suffer from difficulty in social situations and say it significantly interferes with their daily activities. However, as moms we know there are many situations that we face everyday that make us sweat!
We know, you’re wondering if it’s safe. Apparently, it is! In 2004, the FDA approved Botox for treatment of axillary hyperhidrosis (a.k.a you’re sweating a lot!) that can’t be resolved with prescription creams or antiperspirants. In studies, researchers found that after the first treatment, 82% of patients had up to a 75% reduction in sweat production in four weeks after the injection. They also found that the treatment had a positive effect on the patients’ quality of life by easing the social stigma of sweat.
Call us crazy (it wouldn’t be the first time), but we had to check this out for ourselves. We had the pleasure of giving this lovely treatment a try at the Beverly Hills office of Dr. Rady Rahban, M.D. F.A.C.S. Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon. After a little numbing cream to take the edge off, and a few pricks to our underarms (okay, quite a few pricks to our underarms), we were transformed into sweat-free moms in less than 2 weeks. It worked!! We can say that both of us, after undergoing this treatment, are part of that 82%. No sweating. Really.
Minimal pain, TONS of gain!
